Adichie takes 'Americanah' to Kenya, lectures on 50 years of African literature

Making the best of her wider visibility this year, novelist, Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie, whose Half of A Yellow Sun  is currently on the big screen is scheduled for a Kenyan presentation.

While it sounds great that Adichie is promoting her latest work, Americanah abroad- scheduled for presentation at Kenya’s National Museum on November 29, 2013 – it is curious that she will be lecturing on '50 years of African Literature'. Adichie b. 1977, should listen to someone who has experienced 50 years of African literature and not giving a lecture based on accounts of others. Couldn’t the organisers in Kenya have thought of an older writer to deliver such a lecture?

The Nairobi, Kenyan visit will be coming just as Adichie concludes a reading in the U.S., this month. The young celebrated Nigerian author, according to sources from Kenya’s literary community, is expected to be a guest speaker at an event marking the 10 th year Anniversary of a local group, The Kwani Trust.
