Acclaimed as West Africa’s premier international art fair, ART X Lagos holds its 2018 edition from November 2-4 at The Civic Centre, Victoria Island, Lagos. On the list of exhibiting galleries, according to the organisers, are selection of Africa’s established and emerging artists.
The list include Addis Fine Art (Ethiopia), Afriart Gallery (Uganda), Arthouse – The Space, Artyrama, Bloom Art, Nike Art Gallery, SMO Contemporary, Thought Pyramid, Signature Beyond and Retro Africa (Nigeria), Circle Art Agency (Kenya), Gallery 1957 and Nubuke Foundation (Ghana), Out of Africa Gallery (Spain), SMAC Gallery and Stevenson (South Africa), TAFETA and Tiwani Contemporary (UK).
In 2016, ART X Lagos was said to have recorded 5,000 visitors at The Civic Centre venue. And last year, "the figures double to close to 10,000". Participants and visitors to the fair, over the past two years included representatives of international institutions such as the Tate Modern, Zeitz MOCAA, and the National Museum of African Art at the Smithsonian.
Sub-events of the 2018 edition, among others include ART X Talks: Described as highly sought-after talks program, it comes again "with key stakeholders in Africa’s art economy discussing important themes pertinent to the state and evolution of contemporary art in Africa". Curated by Missla Libsekal, "ART X Talks will hold on Saturday November 3-Sunday 4 2018. The program will include a special talk by a keynote artist who will be announced in September". In the previous editions, artists, El Anatsui and Njideka Akunyili-Crosby were among key speakers.
Also included are The Interactive Projects and ART X Live! "The fair will also feature a series of diverse and exciting art installations curated by A Whitespace Creative Agency, that visitors will be encouraged to participate in, making the fair an entertaining day-out for all attendees.
