From Isabella Agbaje's 'Iridescentes/ Iridescent' |
After two photography exhibitions that flagged off its new focus, Alliance Française Lagos presents 'Iridescentes / Iridescent' by Isabella Agbaje, showing from Friday, May 11, -June 15, 2018 at its Herbert Macauley, Yaba, Lagos, centre.
Early this year, Alliance Française Lagos decided to focus on photography, giving opportunity
to upcoming photographers to show their works for the very first time.
The next exhibiting artist who is also known as 'Izzyella' explains the theme of the exhibition: “Everything about our perception is iridescent. I've taken this to also reflect the emotions caused when light hits colour, because these emotions piggyback off our perception of the colours which are changing due to the light”.
Iridescent, she adds, means colours and lights, showing luminous colours that seem to change when seen from different angles.
The organisers say the Lagos based photographer, has branded herself with a quirky style. Izzyella's lenses move through the crevices of Conceptual Photography, finding achievements in the execution of a concept in a landscape that is setup for failure, Alliance Française notes. The press statement argues that with 'Iridescentes / Iridescent', the photographer offers a series of colourful portraits. Playing with lights and carefully chosen backgrounds, and manages to present images of people glowing, blooming and shining despite the challenges of the Lagos life.
