Quiet award for singer activist, Angelique Kidjo

Africa’s current queen of the music world, Angelique Kidjo, 53,s seems to have confirmed her status as the continent’s diva with the award, few days ago, of Artist of the Year at the 2013 Songlines Awards, in Barbican.

The Benin Republic-born singer ihas not exactly made much impact, musically, but she has been louder outside the music scene. Some of her activities in Africa during the year included projects on education for African girls, campaign against FGM and under -age girl marriage.

And came the controversial one when Kidjo labeled the Zimbabwean dictator, Robert Mugabe, a “monster.”
