Alexander’s week of record for South African art auction

It was estimated for R2m-R3m, but South African artist, June Alexander’s piece Untitled broke the country’s record for a sculpture when it sold for R5.5m this week.

 

Said to have been consigned by auction house Strauss & Company, the work, according to sources was produced “in 1986 as part of her exhibition at the University of the Witwatersrand”.
