The
May 2012 edition of the yearly auction of contemporary African art known as Africa Now, holding in London on May 23,
has a special section for the Guild of Professional Fine Artists of Nigeria
(GFA).
Lot 198, Edosa Ogiugo ( b. 1961) 'African Woman Go Dance' (Fela Series)
oil on canvas, 122 x 91.5 cm, 2011 |
This much is gathered from a copy of
the auction catalogue, which I received yesterday from the auction house and
organiser of Africa Now, Bonhams.
The section tagged Works by Artists
from the Guild of Professional Fine Artists of Nigeria has lots 191 to 215.
Artists whose works are featured include Lekan Onabanjo, Sam Ovraiti, Edosa
Ogiugo, Abiodun Olaku, Duke Asidere, Ben Osaghae, Bunmi Babatunde, Reuben
Ugbine, Alex Nwokolo, Tola Wewe and Fidelis Odogwu.
However, there are quite a number of
other young Nigerian artists who are not members of GFA whose works are in the
general section that include artists selected across Africa and the Diaspora.
