At $120m, Norwegian painter, Edward Munch's The Scream has set a record art sale during Sotheby's New York sales.
It was sold at Sotheby's Wednesday sales which featured works of Picasso, Salvador Dali and other great masters..According
to sources, the Scandinavian painter's pastel work was estimated at
$80m, but surprised all as two telephone bidders dragged the sale to
$120m.
The work is one of the four series the artist painted in 1895.
Sotheby's says "The Impressionist & Modern Art Evening Sale totaled a remarkable $330,568,550 / £203,765,332 / €250,936,357, Sotheby’s highest-ever total for a sale of Impressionist & Modern Art worldwide, and the second-highest total for a Sotheby’s auction in any category."
