Arthouse auctions Enwonwu’s The Leaf, other art pieces of modern, contemporary masters

In its 26th edition of art auction, Lagos, Nigeria-based Arthouse Contemporary has announced 77 lots for sales. Taking place online on the popular Invaluable platform, bidding is still on   and closes on June 7, 2021, 6 pm (WAT).

Invaluable is an online auction platform and marketplace that is used by the world's leading auction houses and galleries. 

The lots, according to Arthouse, include artworks from the modern to contemporary period. Art pieces by masters such as Ben Enwonwu, Bruce Onobrakpeya, Uche Okeke, Ben Osawe, Clary Nelson Cole, Obiora Udechukwu, David Dale, Muraina Oyelami, Gani Odutokun, Abiodun Olaku and Kolade Oshinowo, among others, are featuring in the auction. Contemporary artists described as among the leading names featuring in the sales include Victor Ehikhamenor, Ben Osaghae, Kainebi Osahenye, Duke Asidere, Rom Isichei, Jerry Buhari and Wole Lagunju. International artists from outside of Nigeria include Ato Delaquis, Ablade Glover, Camara Gueye and Wiz Kuduwor.

The auction highlights include Enwonwu’s The Leaf, an abstract wood sculpture from 1962. Also, from the same artist are two landscape watercolour paintings dated to the early 1960s. The auction will feature Onobrakpeya’s Sahelian Masquerade, a large-scale metal foil relief from 1988. Also featuring are three gelatin silver prints by famed Nigerian photographer J.D. ‘Okhai Ojeikere from his iconic series on Nigerian hairstyles.

The sales also include a charity section with four lots by Wande George, Uchay Joel Chima, Fidel Oyiogu and Nyemike Onwuka. The Charity lot sales, Arthouse said are in support of the Arthouse Foundation, the non-profit artist residency program in Lagos. "Funds raised with these charity lots will go directly to supporting residency opportunities for artists," the auction house assured.
