In Lagos, Sogal Art Auction Makes Third Edition

Established by a prominent Lagos art dealer and proprietor of Signature Gallery, Rahman Akar, the Sogal art auction holds its third edition on May 9, 2017 at the Porsche Centre, Victoria Island, Lagos.
   Focusing on modern and contemporary art, the auction will feature 85 lots by emerging and established artists across Africa. The artists include Ablade Glover, Ben Osawe,
Ben Offei, Abiodun Aitenagbota, Amos Okosun Odion. Others are Duke Asidere, Alex Nwokolo, Bob Nosa Nwagboe, Ebenezer Akinola, and Ayoola Gbolahan.

  Highlights include Abiodun Aitenagbota, Talking in Tongues, 2015, wood, 41 x 41 x 216cm estimated between ₦5,000,000 - 7,500,000; Ben Osawe, Untitled, 2017, wood, 91 x 107cm, with pre-sale estimates ₦3,500,000 - 4,500,000; Duke Asidere, Resting, 2014, oil on canvas, 183 x 91cm, ₦2,500,000 - 3,000,000; and Ben Offei, Untitled, 1990, oil on canvas, 99 x 91cm estimated between ₦2,000,000 - 2,500,000.

  Excerpt from statement of the auction house: "With an emphasis on quality, Sogal entered into the Lagos auction scene on October 20, 2014. Since then, the auction house has continued to contribute to the growth of the domestic secondary art market, and consequently an increased appreciation of Nigerian and indeed African art on the international art market."
