Debutant, Angola wins best national Pavilion prize at Venice Bennale 2013


First timer, Angola, has been given the Golden Lion prize award at the ongoing 55th Venice Biennale.

                                                                                                         Angola, according to the jury, won the prize for the best national pavilion courtesy of the work titled ‘Luanda, Encyclopedic City’, a photography composite by Edson Chagas.

The Sofía Hernández Chong Cuy-led five member jury which include Ali Subotnick, Bisi Silva, Jessica Morgan and Francesco Manacorda, also awarded a Berlin, Germany-based British artist, Tino Sehgal Golden Lion as the best artist of the 55th Venice.

The other entry of Angola at the Venice Biennale include paintings and sculpture grouped as Angola em Movimento from 21 artists. 

 A Silva Lion prize of the Venice Biennale 2013 went to Paris-based artist Camillie Henrot's video work.
